Modeling
My modeling adventure began in 2003 and ended late 2007. I took a “modeling course” which was honestly not worth the $1,000, BUT it gave me an insight to the industry – how to apply makeup (I was totally clueless), posing, expressions and how to walk that runway walk.
After completing this modeling course, I ventured out on my own and had landed the great opportunity in shooting with fashion photographer David Hou. After working with some well respected photographers, I was well on my way to building my brand of 2gurly4u and obtaining work.
I grew the attitude that I didn’t shoot for the sake of shooting. I was very picky when it came to who I worked with and signed (non-exclusively) with smaller agencies, allowing myself the freedom in finding work on my own – modeling wasn’t my business; I was my business. My experience varied from runway, to commercial photography (stock photography), to promo events, competitions, being featured online, and appearing on tv/video.
I announced my retirement after realizing the industry in Toronto was not going anywhere and there was no growth for me other than the benefit of a cash paying gig. I wasn’t spontaneous enough to pack up and move to Europe or Asia to try my hand at the industry overseas, so I woke up one day and said this is it.
Advice for aspiring models-to-be:
The industry is saturated with sexual hype – never settle for any job – know your worth and uphold your dignity.
