My Kriya Cleansing Techniques

While on the Yoga/Detox Retreat hosted by Lisa and Adam at Drishti Yoga Centre, an ancient Indian body purification technique, also known as Kriya Cleansing was quickly introduced to our group, as what would become a morning routine during our retreat.

Kriyas are cleansing techniques used to purify the body and mind which ultimately open the pathways of the body, the nadis, the energy body, the mind, and the heart.

Ultimately, while we are used to cleansing ourselves externally, this technique cleanses from the inside, leaving you feeling detoxified and refreshed.

Kriya Cleansing is also referred to as Shat kriyas (six purification processes), which are designed to purify the body and promote good health.

During the Yoga/Detox Retreat, we practiced the following 5 techniques, which I now perform at home.

    Hi, when you do the Oil Pulling, do you rinse your mouth with water afterwards, like after the 20 minutes? Thanks!

    1. Hi Cynthia,
      If you have a tongue scraper, I would recommend scraping your tongue right after oil pulling, so you remove all the gunck from your mouth followed by brushing your teeth and mouth wash.
      You can pick up inexpensive tongue scrapers from a drug store or possibly a dollar store. I use a stainless steel one, to avoid throwing away the disposable ones, but they are better than the brush cleaner found on the back of tooth brushes.

      When oil pulling, it is recommended to follow through with tongue scrapping to fully remove the toxins from your mouth, otherwise, if you start with oil pulling and go directly to brushing your teeth and mouth wash, you will still have stuff sitting on your tongue, which you want to make sure you remove.

    How many days for this type of cleansing? 3 days?

    1. Hi Mika,
      You can actually implement the Kriya Cleanse into your daily routine.
      When I returned from the Yoga Detox Retreat, I did the cleanse for a month. Now I continue to do Tongue Scraping daily, and Dry Skin Brushing every time I shower. (I really should add Oil Pulling every morning, but I’m always in a rush).
      Neti Pot, is great to clear out your nasal cavity, and although you can do it daily, I do this every 2 weeks or so.
